The healthcare industry experiences more than its fair share of audits and reviews by a multitude of regulatory bodies and agencies which can be intimidating and nerve-racking for all involved, especially since non-compliance with regulatory expectations can be financially devasting for healthcare organizations. The intensity and consequences of these regulatory processes can be misunderstood by the public and new healthcare professionals. Student researchers collaborated with a local industry leader to develop a case study simulating a routine regulatory review. Examination/treatment rooms were staged to demonstrate areas that would not likely meet regulatory expectations. From this exercise, student researchers worked with regulatory compliance experts to develop an introductory review of regulatory compliance with the intent of educating others about the processes involved with regulatory compliance.
